About Project
An experimental typography project where the goal was to combine two texts to form a new meaning, without adding to or editing the writing. The book is called Misdirection to showcase how people can be easily distracted or misled through visual design. The purple text celebrates human intelligence while the gray text highlights the flaws of the human mind. Skimming the book provides the user with a different takeaway compared to reading it in full.
The two texts used in the book are The Human Advantage: A New Understanding of How Our Brain Became Remarkable by Suzana Herculano-Houzel and The Distracted Mind: Ancient Brains in a High-Tech World by Adam Gazzaley.

Project Phases
Concept Development
I first determined the message to convey with this project, then sketched early visual layout ideas.
Visual Identity Design
With my established concept, I developed a visual identity for the typography, colors, and illustration style of this book. The two texts received distinctly different visual treatment.
Publication Design
I developed multiple spreads adhering to the visual identity design rules I had established for the book’s design.
